Infertility

What is Infertility?
Also called: Sterility
"Infertility means not being able to become pregnant after a year of trying. If a woman keeps having miscarriages, it is also called infertility. Lots of couples have infertility problems. About a third of the time, infertility can be traced to the woman. In another third of cases, it is because of the man. The rest of the time, it is because of both partners or no cause is found…..For a man, a first step is often a sperm test. For women, doctors run tests to see if their ovaries work properly. Women in their 30s who have been trying to get pregnant for six months should consider seeking help. A woman's chances of having a baby drop rapidly every year after age 30.
Currently Drugs or surgery are common treatments. Happily, two-thirds of couples treated for infertility go on to have babies."

That is the 'Chiropractic Approach' for this problem
Lower back pains or lumber restrictions can have an effect upon internal organs, these can include- sex organs which include ovaries, uterus, prostrate, and testes. Also on the same nerve pathway are the bowels and bladder. These lower back aches are often reoccurring and painful. Painful or 'jammed' vertebral segments are what chiropractors call Subluxations (joint displacements). The spinal cord and its nerves exits out of the lower back and feed into the abdomen. When there is a reduced nerve supply to the area this can create poor pelvic organ function. Thus it is important to look after your spine. Chiropractors frequently see gratifying results with this problem. Within the medical field this spinal approach is totally ignored.

Here are some research studies.

A Case study
The restoration of female fertility in response to chiropractic treatment. Proceedings of the national conference on chiropractic and pediatrics, 1994:55-64. McNabb B.

This is the case history of a 36-year-old woman who had been medically tested and examined for infertility for a year. Both her and her husband found no abnormalities in their reproductive systems.

On the initial consultation with the chiropractor she complained of having pelvic pains which was affecting her sleep. She experienced headaches that lasted for two weeks. Also the patient had pains in the lower neck upper back and had tinnitus for the last few years.

Chiropractic care consisted of adjustments of C1-2, T11-T12, and L-4-5. Her treatment plan was three times a week for two weeks, twice a week for four weeks and once a week for 3 weeks.

As treatments progressed there was a reduction in the pelvic, lower neck and upper back pains. Headaches where now rare. She then fell pregnant and had a straight forward delivery.

NOTE This is just one case study, it is a common finding with ALL chiropractors; most chiropractors experience dozens of cases similar to this.

Manipulative Therapy in Rehabilitation of the Locomotor System, 2nd ed. Lewit K (1991), Butterworth-Heineman, Ltd. Oxford: "There is growing evidence that female insterility with negative organic findings may be attributable to pelvic dysfunction."

The author assess a controlled trial 1992 by Volejnikova and Krupicka from the journal Manuelle Medizin. In the treatment group 34% of the women were pregnant within months. Of the control group only 8% became pregnant. When the study was completed the control group was given chiropractic care and another 27% became pregnant. The Monterey County Herald, Match 1998 Section D Page 1.
The Monterey County Herald reported the following story.
"Did you hear the one about the woman who went to the chiropractor and got pregnant?
Really, all Karen Bulch wanted was a little neck-and-shoulders adjustment.
But a month after wandering into chiropractor Mark Kimes' Salina office, the 44-year-old Monterey woman was with child, something she had unsuccessfully been trying to accomplish for 4 ½ years.

Kimes told her it might happen. And if it did, he said it would be within the first few months.

Seems when he was doing the neck/shoulders/complete personal history drill, Kimes noticed a subluxation – essentially, that's chiropractic for blockage in Bulch's lower back. He wasn't sure, but Kimes thought he just might be able to tweak the subluxation to the point of reproduction. "I've been in practice for 12 years and I've seen it happen with many women," he said. "Probably about a dozen women."
